CBT Information at Ban Huai Hee village

Tourists have been coming to the village for more than 10 years, but negative environmental impacts due to tourism raised the villages' concern, inspiring them to seek out a more environmentally and culturally-sensitive vehicle for tourism: Community Based Tourism (CBT).

In 1997 Huai Hee began practicing community based tourism. Founded upon principles of community organization and control, villages work together to set the policies related to tourism, equally sharing the responsibilities and benefits together. Both rotating visitor placement among all participating households and contributing of a portion of CBT income to a community fund ensure equal distribution of earnings. This fund can be used for several purposes, including health care and education. Facilitating positive interaction between visitors and the community, CBT helps integrate natural resource management, cultural preservation, and sustainable development into the experience of tourism.
